Dorothy Louise (Richardson) Desmarais of Prineville, Oregon, passed away peacefully on
January 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Rene R. Desmarais, who left this world on May
17, 2024. Together, they celebrated 52 beautiful years of marriage on January 29, 2024.
Born on March 27, 1953, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the
late Daniel G. and Dorothy A. (Halpin) Richardson. A proud graduate of Tyngsboro High
School’s Class of 1971, she excelled as both a basketball player and a cheerleader before
pursuing further education at Hesser College.
Throughout her career, Dorothy was a respected administrative assistant, working with esteemed
companies such as Sanders Associates and Harris Corporation in Nashua, New Hampshire. After
relocating to California with Rene and their two daughters, she spent 22 fulfilling years at
Teradyne Inc. in Agoura Hills, retiring in 2018.
A passionate reader and writer of poetry, Dorothy found joy in solving crossword puzzles and
cherished moments spent with family and friends. She was a culinary wizard, known for her
delightful Thanksgiving turkey dinners, raspberry muffins, and the best fudge you could ever
taste. A fierce competitor, she loved playing games like cribbage, Parcheesi, Yahtzee, and
rummy with Rene and their daughters, often sharing Sunday night dinners filled with laughter
and love.
During their years in California, Dorothy and Rene enjoyed exploring the ocean together, taking
trips to Ventura Harbor and Santa Barbara before settling into retirement in Prineville, Oregon.
She was a devoted communicant of St. Julie’s Parish in Newbury Park, California.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved daughters and their husbands, Kristie and Brian Humeston of
Prineville, OR, and Kimberly Desmarais and Amir Hariri of New York, NY. She also leaves
behind her cherished grandchildren, Brianna and Tyler Humeston; her three sisters, Donna
Mayer and her husband William of Valrico, FL, Judith Carey and her husband Kevin of Hudson,
NH, and Joan Lamoureux of St. Augustine, FL; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Roy; and many dearly
loved nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Dorothy's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. There will be a a private
family ceremony at sea with Dorothy’s ashes.
